Home Available for Rent on San Juan Island

This peaceful spot will be available for rent and ready to move in on April 1 (and that's no April Fool's joke).  It’s a warm, tight home located four miles out of town (Cattle Point to Portland Fair).  This efficient home is cheap on utilities.  There’s room to garden or farm, or do neither.

HOME and UTILITIES:

  • Four-bedroom, 1¾ bathrooms, living room, dining room, very functional kitchen, dedicated office, washer/dryer, dishwasher, fool-proof propane stove.

  • Large two-car garage with garage door opener.

  • NO WATER BILL: We will pay for water in the Homeowners’ Assessment.  Renter to cover electrical and propane only.

  • Heating systems:

    • Wood heat: Firewood can be harvested from the property--we will fall the trees.  The wood stove/fireplace is a beautiful, efficient, large capacity Jotul wood stove, new in 2011.  It’s really all you need to heat this home.

    • Heat Pump paired with electric forced-air (just run the fan to circulate the fire-heated warmth throughout the house).

    • In-floor radiant heat (propane fired) in two bedrooms, office, and mudroom (dries your shoes).

  • Double-pane wood windows keeps that heat in!

  • Recirculating hot water system provides immediate hot tap water.  Convenient (no waiting), and saves on electrical and water usage.

AMMENITIES:

  • Totally awesome water from community well—great pressure, tastes great, and never runs low.

  • Nice paved roads all the way to the driveway.

  • Well-maintained driveway with turn-around.

  • 24x30 covered outbuilding provides ample dry-space (quanset hut--not the garage).

  • GREAT FOR KIDS:  Giant swing, cargo net, “mountainside,” and pond.

  • DRIVING RANGE: Whack golf balls as hard as you can; you cannot reach another property.

  • SAUNA: Electric-fired for convenience, this Finnish-made 5x7 sauna is situated right out the back door, overlooking the garden and expansive valley of Heritage Farm and beyond (this is the same view from the kitchen and living room).

  • Fenced garden area.

  • Chicken coup, large and predator-proof.

  • View from home overlooks the pond, with a wide variety of wildlife visible throughout the day—ducks, heron, eagles, deer, crows, raven, etc., plus a symphonic frog-song in the spring.

  • Premium (Miele) appliances.

PROPERTY

  • No neighbor’s house is directly visible—very private.

  • Home is on 6.9 acres.

  • Located just over 4 miles from town—an eight-minute drive.

  • Fenced garden and yard area abutting house, with prepared (fallowed) beds ready to grow a garden.

  • Adjoining 40+ acres of farmland will never be developed—development rights sold to the Land Bank.

  • Open space around the house, with alternating sun and shade from distant trees.

  • Beautiful pond below, yet well away from the house.

  • Rocky, mountainous hillside with exposed rock outcroppings.

  • Stands of huge mature fir trees, and stands of smaller fir and pine trees.

  • Mature, and young Garry Oaks, plus healthy Madrona trees.

RENT:

  • $1,600 per month

  • Free wood to burn for heat (also has gas and electric heat)

  • No utility charge for water

  • A beautiful and peaceful place to live
